Coastal Pike – Southern Archipelago (Sipoo to Loviisa)

Late May has seen strong streamer fishing for pike along the southern coast. Post-spawn activity has transitioned into steady feeding as fish spread out from spawning bays to nearby drop-offs, rocky points, and reed edges. Conditions have been favorable, with water temps climbing and fish responding well to larger presentations.

Current Conditions:

  • Water Temperature: 11–14°C

  • Water Clarity: Clear to slightly stained, varies with wind direction

  • Wind: Variable; calmer mornings and protected bays produced best results

  • Best Fishing Windows: Mid-morning through late afternoon, especially on warming days

Recommended Tactics:

  • Use intermediate or sink-tip lines to reach fish holding in 1–2.5 meters of water

  • Strip-pause-strip retrieves with sudden direction changes to trigger followers

  • Focus on structure: rock edges, reedlines, creek mouths, and drop-offs

  • Try top water if fishing shallow water

Top Streamers:

  • CJ’s Sluggo

  • Drunk & Disorderly (Large)

  • Wiggle tail patterns

  • Pacchiarini's Jig Gandalf

  • Pacchiarini's discovery baitfish

  • Productive Colors: Olive, chartreuse/white, black/red, tan/gold

Trout – Central Finland Streams

Trout activity picked up significantly by late May. Stable flows and warming water have trout feeding more actively on both structure and in seams. While hatches are increasing, streamers remain the most consistent producers, especially for larger fish. Conditions have been clear and stable across most rivers. We´ve had a great start for the streamer season! We´ve been to Äyskoski, Huuhtajankoski, Kerma and Jaala - all fished great and we´ve caught 6 browns between 65-68cm this season, hunting for that 2025 first 70+ continues!

Current Conditions:

  • Water Temperature: 8–10°C

  • River Flow: Stable and moderate

  • Insect Activity: Early mayflies appearing in the south / central, with growing caddis and midge presence; ants and terrestrials showing up on warm days

Streamer Fishing:
This is prime time for larger streamers. Bigger fish are responding well to expressive, articulated patterns. Focus on tailouts, bouldery runs and banks. Fishing is most productive during overcast periods or just before dusk.

Recommended Streamers:

  • Large d&d

  • Full-Size Dungeon (Olive and black)

  • Peanut Envy in all colours

  • Mini D&D

  • Bangtails

Other Effective Techniques:

  • Swing and pulse presentations with light sink-tips

  • Dead-drifting jig streamers through deep pocket water

  • Jerk strips along edges and over drop-offs

  • Jerk strips with swim flies, we´ve had a lot of luck just jerking d&d´s as hard as possible with pauses

Seasonal Outlook

Streamer season is hitting its peak in both southern and central Finland. Pike are aggressive and widely distributed in the shallows and adjacent drop-offs. Trout are feeding more consistently and responding well to larger flies, especially during low light or when pressured. Expect more insect activity, dry fly windows, and even better streamer opportunities moving into June. mousing will start soon during the nights - Fish are hiting big flies atm and we will start seeing that “baitfish” hatch soon!!
